01

In recent years, although the new energy vehicle market has flourished, the problem of difficult testing and maintenance of new energy batteries has become increasingly prominent.
A new blue ocean has opened up in the aftermarket of new energy batteries!
This not only brings a lot of inconvenience to car owners, but also becomes a hidden worry for potential consumers to "enter" the new energy vehicle "camp, which to some extent restricts the development process of the new energy vehicle industry.
Based on market conditions, industry data shows that as of the end of June 2024, the total number of new energy vehicles in China reached 24.72 million, accounting for 7.18% of the total number of vehicles.
According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China's automobile sales reached 31.436 million units in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%. Among them, the sales of new energy vehicles reached 12.866 million units, a year-on-year increase of 35.5%.
It can be seen that the sales of new energy vehicles account for about 41% of the total car sales in 2024, and their growth rate is 31 percentage points higher than the overall trend, showing a strong growth momentum, which will inevitably drive the continuous increase in the proportion of new energy vehicle ownership.
It is worth noting that the rapid growth in the number of new energy vehicles has led to a large-scale increase in demand for new energy vehicles and power battery after-sales services; On the other hand, pain points in the aftermarket also urgently need to be addressed.
In this context, the "2025 New Energy Battery Aftermarket Testing and Maintenance Technology (Shenzhen) Exchange Conference" hosted by Battery China Network will be held on March 1, 2025 at the Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center (Bao'an).
The conference will focus on the current development status of the new energy battery aftermarket, share relevant technologies such as battery after-sales testing and evaluation, analyze the difficulties and bottlenecks related to the new energy battery aftermarket, and analyze the development trend of the new energy battery aftermarket. This will help promote the high-quality development of the new energy battery aftermarket and accelerate the formation of a healthy industrial pattern for the new energy battery aftermarket.
From February 28th to March 3rd, the "2025 Shenzhen International Smart Travel, Automotive Modification and Automotive Service Industry Ecological Expo" will also be held, with an exhibition scale of 320000 square meters, covering five major themes including "customized modification, front-end technology, commercial vehicles, RV camping, and automotive culture".
In fact, as the core component of new energy vehicles, the testing and maintenance of power batteries are extremely important. However, there are currently many pain points in this field that hinder the rapid development of the industry and the driving experience of consumers.
Meanwhile, which national standards will be implemented in China regarding the construction of the aftermarket for new energy vehicles and power batteries? Driven by high demand in the aftermarket, which companies in the power battery industry chain will have the opportunity to showcase their skills? These topics have also become the focus of industry attention.
01
Pain points in the aftermarket of new energy batteries
At present, there are obvious pain points in the aftermarket of new energy batteries, which also brings new challenges and opportunities for the development of the industry.
1. The battery data is opaque
Due to the opacity of battery data, it is often difficult for testing and maintenance personnel to obtain accurate and comprehensive battery information. For example, the health status of the battery, charging and discharging history, remaining life, etc. Not only does it affect the accuracy and efficiency of battery maintenance, but it also poses significant difficulties for maintenance personnel to determine whether and when to replace the battery.
2. High technical difficulty in battery testing and maintenance
A battery pack usually contains dozens to hundreds of cells, with high integration and complex structure, making it difficult to disassemble. Moreover, after long-term charging and discharging use, the health status of each individual cell is difficult to observe and diagnose, which increases the difficulty of battery testing and maintenance.
In addition, during the maintenance process of batteries, specific tools and equipment are required due to the high voltage and complexity of the batteries. However, there is currently insufficient supply of professional tools for the maintenance of new energy batteries in the market, which also increases the difficulty of battery maintenance.
3. The cost of replacing the battery pack is high
The cost of new energy batteries accounts for about 40% of the total vehicle cost, and once the battery pack needs to be replaced, the maintenance cost is often staggering. Replacing a brand new battery (pack) costs 80000 yuan, and the new car only costs over 100000 yuan when it lands. Many car owners are very concerned about the high cost of battery pack replacement.
4. Third party repairs are restricted
At present, maintenance centers of new energy vehicle companies mostly adopt a direct sales model, with scarce branches, making it difficult to meet the daily maintenance needs of car owners across the country. Industry data shows that there are currently about 800000 domestic automobile maintenance service enterprises, with no more than 5% of enterprises having the ability to provide new energy vehicle maintenance services. There are less than 5000 enterprises with brand authorization and professional three electric system maintenance capabilities.
Meanwhile, due to the fact that the core technologies of various brands of batteries are not open to the public and it is difficult to obtain authorization for battery maintenance, third-party enterprise maintenance is restricted.
5. Shortage of battery maintenance and repair personnel
The maintenance and repair of new energy batteries belong to high-risk technical occupations that require assessment and certification. Therefore, talent cultivation is both a key and difficult point.
Firstly, maintenance and repair personnel for new energy batteries need to understand not only battery structure, but also electronics and chemistry, which requires a high level of relevant technical expertise; Secondly, the maintenance and repair standards and specifications are not yet sound, and the level and service quality of relevant personnel vary greatly, which in turn affects the experience of car owners; Thirdly, there are relatively few colleges and institutions that cultivate relevant talents, which has also led to a shortage of talent in the current industry.
02
National standards lead the evolution of the aftermarket for new energy vehicles and power batteries
Entering 2025, the aftermarket for new energy vehicles and power batteries will see the implementation of two national standards.
Among them, the national standard "Technical Requirements for Maintenance and Repair of New Energy Vehicles" has been implemented since January 1, 2025; The national standard "Technical Conditions for Completion and Delivery of Power Battery Maintenance" has also been released in November 2024 and will be officially implemented from March 1, 2025.
According to reports, both CATL and Guoxuan High Tech participated in the drafting of the two national standards mentioned above among battery companies. At the same time, EVE Energy and BAK Battery are also the drafting units of the "Technical Conditions for Completion and Delivery of Power Battery Maintenance".
The "Technical Conditions for Completion and Delivery of Power Battery Maintenance" provides detailed specifications for the maintenance operation requirements, completion and delivery technical requirements, and quality assurance of electric vehicle power batteries.
It is understood that the introduction of these two national standards aims to improve the quality of maintenance and repair of new energy vehicles, ensure the safety of car owners, and promote the healthy development of the new energy vehicle industry.
The participation of the above-mentioned battery companies in the formulation of the "Technical Conditions for Completion and Delivery of Power Battery Maintenance" indicates their respective contributions to the practicality and rapid implementation of the standards, jointly promoting the standardized development of power battery maintenance technology.
03
The 'card battle' in the aftermarket of new energy batteries has begun
Not only did multiple battery companies participate in the formulation of national standards, but at the beginning of the new year in 2025, Ningde Times unveiled its first aftermarket direct sales experience center "Ningjia Service" in the East China region in Nanjing. Its business includes battery repair, battery maintenance, battery testing, used car trading, battery extended warranty, and full lifecycle services for new energy products related to battery recycling and reuse.
Industry insiders say that in the future, more and more battery industry chain enterprises, including battery production, testing, maintenance, recycling and dismantling, as well as professional talent training and other fields, may participate in the "card battle" of the new energy battery aftermarket.
With the continuous growth of the number of new energy vehicles, the aftermarket for new energy batteries is about to explode. How to strengthen post market technology research and innovation? How to improve the maintainability and convenience of testing and maintenance of batteries? What means can be used to improve the battery aftermarket testing and maintenance service system? These are the key points that industrial chain enterprises need to deeply consider.
To address the current pain points in the industry, it requires joint efforts from the government, automotive companies, battery companies, maintenance companies, and relevant institutions. Industry professionals are welcome to participate in the "2025 New Energy Battery Aftermarket Testing and Maintenance Technology (Shenzhen) Exchange Conference" to deeply exchange industry hot issues and jointly analyze the development trend of the new energy battery aftermarket.
